Job summary

Colonna's Shipyard (Steel America) is seeking a 1st Class Inside Machinist to perform precision machining, fabrication, modification, and repair of metal components for ship systems. Work takes place onsite in Norfolk, VA on the 2nd shift using manual machines and precision measuring tools.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of inside machinist experience or a relevant apprenticeship, with strong blueprint reading and quality control skills.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as an inside machinist or apprenticeship graduate.
• Strong precision machining, blueprint reading and quality control.
• Proficient with manual tooling and measurement instruments.

Responsibilities

• Perform precision machining on manually operated equipment to exact specs.
• Read blueprints and technical drawings to plan operations.
• Manufacture parts for ship systems to tight tolerances.
• Inspect parts with micrometers, calipers and gauges.
• Set up machines and adjust settings to achieve required outcomes.
• Maintain machining equipment and diagnose issues.
• Keep records and mentor other crew members as needed.
