Job summary

Rochester Precision Optics is seeking an Injection Molding Process Technician for the 2nd shift. The role involves setting up molds, tuning process parameters, and maintaining high-quality production of optical components.

Training on 1st shift precedes transition, with a 5% shift differential upon shift change. The ideal candidate has hands-on molding experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with quality, engineering, and maintenance teams to achieve

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; technical training or associate degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years in injection molding or related roles in manufacturing.
• Experience with mold changeovers, machine setup, and start-ups.
• Strong understanding of injection molding processes and parameters impact on quality.
• Proficient in troubleshooting defects and tooling issues.
• Experience using measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators).
• Safe handling of molds and manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to read work instructions and setup sheets.
• Detail-oriented with focus on quality and process control.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration with production, quality, engineering, and maintenance.
• Experience in regulated manufacturing environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set up, change molds, and prepare machines for production runs.
• Establish and adjust injection molding process parameters to meet quality targets.
• Validate and monitor production jobs after mold changes or maintenance.
• Troubleshoot defects, process variation, and machine/tooling issues.
• Monitor process stability and adjust to improve yield and throughput.
• Perform mold tear-downs, teardown and storage per procedures.
• Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble molds."
• Perform mold insert changes and verify tooling configuration.
• Conduct in-process inspections and communicate quality concerns to teams.
• Use precision measuring tools to verify product conformance.
• Operate testing equipment to evaluate molded components.
• Document process parameters, maintenance, and inspection results.
• Support continuous improvement for cycle time and waste reduction.
• Maintain safety, quality, Lean and 5S standards.
