The Barber National Institute is seeking a Direct Support Professional for full-time, residential Pittsburgh placement. The role supports individuals with developmental disabilities, promoting independence and community engagement, with training provided.

Typical days include daily living support, transportation, and advocacy, requiring flexibility for 2nd/3rd shifts and weekends. A compassionate, proactive approach is valued in this mission-driven organization.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Pre-hire Clearances: State Police Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Clearance (if you have not lived in PA for the past 2 years).
• Ability to pass Medication Administration and CPR/First Aid Certification
• Access to a personal mobile device for work communication

Responsibilities

• Support individuals with daily living needs such as personal hygiene and meal preparation.
• Assist individuals in becoming active members of their community through activities and social events.
• Transport individuals to work, appointments, or social gatherings.
• Advocate for individuals' choices and ensure they have a voice in their care and decisions.
• Celebrate successes and provide emotional support during challenges.
• Help with housekeeping to maintain a comfortable home environment.
• Collaborate with caregivers, families, and medical professionals to provide holistic, person-centered care.
