Job summary

Charles River Laboratories in Mattawan, MI is seeking an experienced Technician I – Necropsy for the 2nd Shift Pathology Services Team. The role involves learning onboarding tasks, animal handling, dissection, sample collection, and data recording under supervision.

The pay is $20/hr plus a 10% shift differential, with a Monday–Friday 12:00 PM–8:30 PM schedule and possible overtime. The candidate will perform euthanasia and post-mortem examinations, ensure animal welfare, maintain GLP

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED required; BA/BS in biological science preferred.
• Experience: No previous experience required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals.
• Computer skills, including MS Office; ability to learn validated systems.
• Ability to ensure GLP compliance by following SOPs, BOP and IACUC rules.
• Willingness to work after hours as needed.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Performs euthanasia and post-mortem examination of animals, including removal, processing, and preserving organs for microscopic evaluation.
• Ensure welfare and humane care for all animals through gentle human interaction.
• Train in onboarding skills including animal handling, sedation, dissection, sample collection and weights, lab prep and cleaning.
• Collect, document, review, and verify data on forms or electronic systems.
• Review documentation of functions for quality control requirements.
• Use and maintain instrumentation and equipment.
• Learn and know anatomical terms.
• Receive, track, and prepare samples or materials for the department.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.
