Job summary

Twice seeks an Assistant Superintendent to join the agronomy team and help maintain a premier private golf course in South Florida. You will work closely with the Director of Agronomy to ensure optimal conditioning and course health in a hands-on, outdoor environment.

The ideal candidate brings turfgrass expertise, strong leadership, and a commitment to consistent, high-quality playing conditions, with flexibility for early mornings, weekends, and varying schedules.

Qualifications

• Previous golf course maintenance experience required.
• Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field preferred.
• South Florida growing conditions knowledge is a plus.
• Florida pesticide certification or ability to obtain license within reasonable period.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Agronomy with daily operation and maintenance of the golf course and grounds.
• Supervise and direct staff in the Superintendent's absence.
• Assist with scheduling, crew assignments, and maintenance tasks.
• Maintain greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and landscaped areas to high standards.
• Monitor turfgrass health and address disease, pests, nutrition, and environmental issues.
• Operate and maintain turf equipment; assist with preventive maintenance.
• Monitor the irrigation system and coordinate repairs as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of chemical applications, weather, irrigation, and activities.
• Coordinate course projects, renovations, and improvement initiatives.

Overview

The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Director of Agronomy and Agronomy team to maintain and enhance the golf course to the highest standards. This position is ideal for a hands-on turfgrass professional who takes pride in course conditioning, enjoys working outdoors, and is committed to developing their skills in a premier private-club environment.

The ideal candidate is a team-oriented, dependable, hands-on leader who understands that championship-level golf course conditions are achieved through consistency, communication, and attention to detail. The role is suited for someone eager to grow professionally, take ownership of responsibilities, and contribute to an agronomy team dedicated to maintaining one of South Florida's most distinctive golf properties.

Experience Required

• Previous golf course maintenance experience required; experience at a private club or high-end facility preferred.
• Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, particularly warm-season grasses and South Florida growing conditions.
• Working knowledge of irrigation systems and water management.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills.
• Ability to operate and safely maintain golf course equipment.
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to exceptional playing conditions.
• Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a team.
• Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field preferred.
• Florida pesticide applicator certification, or the ability to obtain applicable licenses within a reasonable period.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work outdoors in hot, humid, and changing weather conditions.
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules based on course maintenance needs.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Agronomy with the daily operation and maintenance of the golf course and surrounding grounds.
• Supervise and direct members of the golf course maintenance staff in the absence of the Superintendent.
• Assist with daily scheduling, crew assignments, and completion of maintenance tasks.
• Maintain greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and landscaped areas to exceptional standards.
• Assist with mowing, fertilization, irrigation, chemical applications, aerification, topdressing, and other cultural practices.
• Monitor turfgrass health and identify disease, pest, nutritional, and environmental issues.
• Assist with pesticide and fertilizer applications in accordance with applicable regulations and club policies.
• Operate and maintain turf equipment and assist with equipment troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
• Monitor and maintain the irrigation system, including troubleshooting irrigation issues and coordinating repairs when necessary.
• Assist with water management and environmentally responsible turfgrass practices.
• Maintain accurate records of chemical applications, weather conditions, irrigation, maintenance activities, and other agronomic data.
• Help coordinate golf course projects, renovations, and improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional work environment.
• Communicate effectively with the Superintendent, management, golf operations, and other club departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent.
