Job summary

Twice in Georgia oversees the maintenance and construction of the golf course, ensuring turf grass is repaired and maintained to established standards while supporting a positive member and guest experience. The Assistant Superintendent works with the Superintendent to manage budgets, supervise staff, and direct maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.

The role requires a degree or equivalent, pesticide license, a valid driver’s license, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from a four- or two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or soil science.
  • Three to four years related experience and/or training.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Pesticide Application License required.
  • Ability to read and speak English required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions and occasionally near moving mechanical parts, fumes, and/or airborne particles.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Superintendent to ensure the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans are maintained and followed.
  • Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and directing maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.
  • Supervise planting and cultural practices for turf grasses, trees, and ornamental plants.
  • Ensure construction equipment is properly maintained.
  • Assist in procurement of supplies and materials and ensure costs remain within budgetary limitations.
  • Keep records of annual maintenance activities and costs and assist with required reports.
  • Follow sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible.
  • Reconcile and provide timely coding of invoices, payroll, and other required documents.
  • Coordinate snow removal depending upon facility location.
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed, including compliance with government regulations.
  • Ensure associates obtain proper licenses needed to perform job tasks safely and within regulations and address environmental concerns.
  • Manage department members including Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician.
  • Provide orientation and training to new associates and develop ongoing training programs.
  • Monitor business volume forecast and plan manpower, productivity, costs, and expenses accordingly.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
