Job summary

Twice seeks a Golf Course Superintendent to support the Director of Golf Course Maintenance and lead the 1st Assistant Superintendent in day-to-day operations at our 18-hole course in Saint Augustine, FL. You will develop turf and plant maintenance programs, manage budgets, staffing, irrigation, chemicals, and compliance, while ensuring top course condition and member satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • An associates and/or bachelor's degree in Turf Management or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Golf Course Maintenance.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in budgeting for golf course and landscape departments.
  • Minimum of 1 year of knowledge of equipment, products, and resources for golf course operations.
  • Current State Pesticide Applicators License or completion within 90 days.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Preferred: knowledge of business administration practices and golf course operations.
  • Preferred: supervisory experience with confidentiality of information.

Responsibilities

  • Provide agronomic oversight to healthy growth of grasses, trees, wetlands, and plant material.
  • Supervise chemical applications and keep records to comply with regulations.
  • Oversee safe operation and maintenance of golf course machinery; budget for equipment needs.
  • Maintain the golf course to high standards per company and industry guidelines.
  • Control expenses and adhere to the budget for golf course operations.
  • Collaborate with Head Golf Professional to optimize rounds around maintenance and events.
  • Communicate regularly with members to exceed expectations.
  • Ensure staff training in OSHA, safety, and guidelines for safe working conditions.
  • Provide ongoing technical, operational, and safety training for staff.
  • Lead and participate in meetings on club operations, schedules, safety, and environmental concerns.

Job description

Overview

The Superintendent is responsible for supporting the Director Golf Course Maintenance with the 1st Assistant Superintendent with day-to-day operations. The role includes developing and managing turf grass and plant material maintenance programs, overseeing property and asset management, managing personnel, handling budgeting, forecasting, and financial management, participating in member retention initiatives, scheduling and maintaining irrigation systems, applying pesticides and maintaining related records, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements. Oversight is limited to a single 18-hole operation.

Experience Required
  • An associates and/or bachelor's degree in Turf Management or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Golf Course Maintenance.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in preparing and managing budgets for the golf course and landscape maintenance departments.
  • A minimum of 1 year of technical knowledge of all equipment, products, and resources related to golf course operations with the ability to implement these resources to meet or exceed company and club standards.
  • Current State Pesticide Applicators License or successfully completed within 90 days of employment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Preferred: Thorough knowledge of general business administration practices and golf course operations practices and procedures.
  • Preferred: Direct supervisory experience with proven ability to maintain confidentiality of Club, Company, and personnel information.

  • Collaborate with the Head Golf Professional to optimize rounds of golf while scheduling maintenance practices around member plays and events.
  • Regularly communicate with members to ensure the club exceeds their expectations.
  • Ensure staff training in OSHA, club safety, and state and federal guidelines to maintain safe working conditions.
  • Provide ongoing technical, operational, and safety training for staff, fostering a culture of compliance and safety.
  • Lead and participate in meetings to discuss club operations, maintenance schedules, safety protocols, and environmental concerns.
