Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent supports the Golf Course Superintendent in the daily management, maintenance, and improvement of the golf course. This position plays a key role in ensuring that playing conditions meet the highest standards, supervising grounds crews, and assisting with turf management, irrigation, and equipment operation. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with a passion for agronomy and golf course operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and execution of daily golf course maintenance activities.
- Supervise, train, and schedule maintenance staff to ensure efficient operations.
- Monitor turf conditions, disease, and pest activity, and assist in implementing appropriate control programs.
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of the irrigation system, including scheduling, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Ensure proper use and care of equipment, tools, and materials.
- Maintain accurate records related to chemical applications, irrigation, and daily activities.
- Enforce safety standards and promote a positive, team‑oriented work environment.
- Assist in budgeting, purchasing, and inventory management.
- Support special projects such as construction, renovation, and landscape improvements.
- Act as Superintendent in their absence.
Qualifications
- Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of golf course maintenance experience, with some supervisory responsibilities.
- Knowledge of turfgrass species, irrigation systems, fertilizers, pesticides, and modern maintenance practices.
- Ability to operate and train others on golf course equipment.
- Valid driver’s license required; pesticide applicator’s license (or ability to obtain) strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing physical labor.
- Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and operating equipment.
