Job summary

Twice is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to oversee agronomic procedures for a 12-hole golf course. You will report to the Director of Agronomy and lead a 14-person staff, including a 2nd assistant and a chemical technician, ensuring high-quality turf management and safety compliance.

You will manage budgets, supervise daily duties, and coordinate planting, maintenance, and equipment upkeep across greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers. Strong leadership and licensing are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in agronomy, horticulture, or plant/soil science is required or equivalent
• Three to four years of related experience and/or training
• Valid driver’s license required; Pesticide Application License required; English reading/speaking ability required

Responsibilities

• Manage annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans with the Superintendent
• Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties
• Plan, organize, and direct maintenance and construction of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers
• Supervise planting and cultural practices for turf grasses, trees, and ornamentals
• Ensure maintenance equipment is properly serviced and kept up
• Procure supplies and manage costs within budget
• Maintain records of maintenance activities and prepare reports
• Coordinate snow removal as location requires
• Ensure compliance with company policies and regulations
• Oversee licensing and safety compliance; address environmental concerns
• Manage department staff including Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, Irrigation Technician
• Provide orientation and ongoing training for new associates; monitor manpower and costs
• Maintain reliable attendance and safe work practices

Job description

Overview

Responsible for managing all agronomic procedures for the 12-hole course. The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Director of Agronomy and works closely with other assistants and equipment managers while overseeing a staff of 14 people, including a 2nd assistant and a chemical technician.

Experience Required

• Bachelor's or associate's degree from a two- or four-year college or technical school; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Three to four years of related experience and/or training
• Degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, or plant/soil science
• Valid driver's license required
• Pesticide Application License required
• Ability to read and speak English is required
• Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds

Essential Responsibilities

• Work with the Superintendent to ensure that the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans are maintained and followed
• Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties
• Assist in the planning, organizing, and direction of the maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers
• Supervise the planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees, and ornamental plants
• Ensure that construction equipment is properly maintained
• Assist in the procurement of supplies and materials and ensure costs remain within budgetary limitations
• Keep records of annual maintenance activities and costs and assist with the preparation of required reports
• Follow sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible
• Reconcile and provide timely coding of all invoices, payroll, and other required documents
• Coordinate snow removal depending upon facility location
• Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed including compliance with government regulations
• Ensure associates obtain proper licenses needed to perform job tasks safely and within regulations; address environmental concerns directly
• Manage department members including Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician
• Ensure effective orientation and training for each new associate; develop ongoing training programs
• Monitor business volume forecast and plan accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs, and other expenses
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance
• Incorporate safe work practices in job performance
