Job summary

Community Cares AmeriCorps addresses critical needs in rural Tennessee by supporting seniors and people with disabilities, reducing food insecurity, serving at-risk youth, assisting individuals and families in crisis, and strengthening community organizations.

Members provide wellness checks, companionship, nutrition and food support, food delivery, transportation, social engagement, paperwork assistance, and referrals.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork in community or service settings.
  • Strong communication and public speaking abilities.
  • Ability to engage with seniors, youth, and diverse communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct interventions to seniors and people with disabilities according to program needs.
  • Support youth through tutoring and mentoring and assist with food distribution and transportation.
  • Connect individuals and families to community resources and referrals as needed.
  • Support nonprofits and housing authorities through capacity-building activities.

Job description

Community Cares AmeriCorps addresses critical needs in rural and low-income communities by supporting seniors and people with disabilities, reducing food insecurity, serving at-risk youth, assisting individuals and families in crisis, and strengthening community organizations.Members provide services based on the needs of each service site and population. For seniors and people with disabilities, members offer wellness checks, companionship, nutrition and food support, food delivery, transportation, social engagement, paperwork assistance, and referrals. These services help individuals remain independent in their homes and maintain a better quality of life.Members also combat food insecurity through farmers markets, food pantries, gardens, and food programs. Activities include food distribution, outreach, nutrition and wellness education, gardening, food preparation and preservation, emergency food support, and community education.For youth under 18, members provide tutoring, reading programs, homework help, computer skills, summer reading, life skills, nutrition support, food and snack distribution, social activities, service-learning, and educational field trips. These services promote academic success, healthy development, and positive futures.Members also connect individuals and families experiencing temporary crises with community resources and referrals to help prevent long-term instability.Finally, members support nonprofits and Public Housing Authorities through capacity-building activities that help sustain and expand programs for seniors, youth, and low-income communities.
