AmeriCorps members serve in middle schools, supporting the academic and social-emotional growth of students during morning classes and delivering the Career Connected Curriculum in expanded learning to spark curiosity about future careers.

As role models, members demonstrate teamwork, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping adolescents, collaborating with community volunteers and gathering data to track progress throughout the year.

  • Build on relationships in the expanded learning portion, providing creative, hands-on, career-focused learning opportunities alongside expert community volunteers.
  • Collect data, keep students safe, build relationships with families and school community.
  • Create community gatherings to showcase the growth of students and their final projects on a semester basis.
  • Develop exit tickets to monitor the academic and social well-being of students.
  • Work in teams, support each other, attend professional development classes, and build community with the school.

Job description

In our Career Connected Learning model Americorps Members serve in middle schools. During the morning hours, our Service members work closely with the homeroom or subject matter teacher in select classrooms supporting students academic growth and individual social emotional needs. In the expanded learning portion of the day, they deliver our Career Connected Curriculum to inspire creativity and curiosity around future career opportunities that meet the students passion and skill sets. The goal of the program is to allow students to sample as many potential careers by actually participating in solving real world challenges and working on real world solutions in a variety of careers. Getting to understand better the skills required, the passion and resilience needed to succeed in that career. Over the year, students will have the chance to partake in four different career curriculum and by 8th grade they will have sampled 12 different careers allowing them to envision a potential career choice. As a service member you will be role models for the students. Demonstrating the values of teamwork, persistence, curiosity, joy, service, critical thinking for the young apprentices. You will support the curriculum with power point presentations, all the necessary materials, exit tickets, and surveys. Service members will work with local company experts who will join in the Career Connected Learning Curriculum that meets their expertise. You will be working with a team of AmeriCorps Service members and will be assigned to one school for the entire year. Working with middle school students is a high-energy, deeply rewarding experience. Thriving in this environment requires adaptability, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting adolescents through a pivotal stage of development. While demanding, the role offers a unique opportunity to provide the consistent, caring guidance that helps young people navigate their academic and social growth.
