Job description

Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in Curriculum and Instruction and/or Educational Research

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers lower-division, upper-division, and postbaccalaureate/credential courses for the preparation and professional development of PreK‑12 teachers, and hosts two master’s programs (M.A.Ed.-C&I and MAT) and two advanced certificate programs in educational technology and research methods.

Position Summary

The Department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate, credential, and/or graduate courses. Candidates should review course catalog descriptions and indicate in the letter of interest the courses they are interested in teaching.

Instructor Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and implement university and system-wide policies per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
  • Prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade courses, including lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, midterm and final exams.
  • Ensure all classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Appointment Conditions

Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States (Fresno State is not a sponsoring agency for Temporary Faculty positions).

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and falls within the CSU Salary Schedule for Academic Year Lecturers (Class Code 2358). For temporary faculty with a master’s degree the monthly rate is $5,507–$6,677 for full‑time (15 WTUs), with adjustments based on actual WTUs assigned.

Anticipated Semester

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open; positions are filled as needed. The following semesters are prospective:

  • Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications
  • Education: A master’s degree in Education with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • CI and ERE courses: 100‑level courses require a master’s degree; 200‑level courses require a doctorate. Credential courses require a teaching credential and relevant TK‑12 classroom experience.
  • Online instruction requires online certification and/or QLT training (https://ocs.calstate.edu/).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commitment to teaching excellence, evidenced by prior teaching experiences and evaluations.
  • Successful teaching experience in higher education.
  • Recent experience teaching at the PreK‑12 level.
