Instructor Responsibilities

Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system‑wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2. Instructors prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm/final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Conditional Appointment

Appointment contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. The “Order of Work” prioritizes tenure‑track faculty before new lecturer appointees.

Applicants must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States. California State University, Fresno does not sponsor temporary faculty for work visas.

Compensation

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience within the salary range placement. For a Master’s degree holder the monthly rate for full‑time teaching (15 WTUs) is $5,507–$6,677, typically near the minimum of the range. Actual salary is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.

Anticipated Semester

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, with positions filled as needed based on enrollment and funding. The pool remains for two academic terms; applicants wishing to stay beyond that must reapply.

  • Fall 2026: August 19 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027: January 15 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s degree with an emphasis in Africana Studies or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, demonstrated through prior teaching experience, evaluations, or other evidence.
  • Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
