Job summary

Southern Power is seeking an SPC Remote Operations Center (ROC) Operator to monitor and operate renewable sites nationwide from the Birmingham, AL ROC. The role requires coordinating with system operations, asset management, and site personnel, with a strong focus on data-driven plant performance and NERC compliance.

Ideal candidates have experience with SCADA/PLC systems, data historians, and a solid electrical theory background.

Qualifications

• Basic Understanding of Electrical Theory.
• Ability to use multiple data sources such as SCADA, plant controls, and data historians to troubleshoot problems with sites and site equipment.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and other applications.
• Awareness of and compliance with NERC/CIP requirements applicable to facility and ROC operations.
• Willingness to work in a 24x7 shift environment.

Responsibilities

• Control and operate sites as dictated by dispatch orders and procedures.
• Manage remote resets of equipment.
• Manage curtailment directives.
• Interact with Transmission Provider and Customer.
• Log all site events, alarms, resets, and dispatches and complete shift reports.
• Troubleshoot in conjunction with site personnel.
• Coordinate activities with site personnel, system operations, and asset management.
• Manage facility forecasts.
• Provide plant performance and output reporting.
• Manage NERC reporting in conjunction with site personnel.
• Establish ongoing relationships with all levels of plant and corporate staff.
• Take an active role in developing new employees.
• Perform 24/7 real-time QSE operations.
