Job summary

The California Poison Control System (CPCS) at UCSF Health operates a 24/7 poison information hotline serving California residents. The Fresno Division on the Valley Children’s Hospital campus in Madera invites a Pharmacist to provide emergency call assessment, information, and management advice with follow-up, while engaging in teaching and scholarly activities.

Qualified applicants hold a Pharm.D. and CA pharmacist license, with 2+ years of clinical pharmacy or CPCS experience.

Qualifications

• Pharm.D. Degree required and CA Pharmacist license in good standing.
• Minimum of 2 years clinically oriented pharmacy practice or 2 years Poison Control Center experience or equivalent.
• Excellent drug information skills and knowledge of pharmacology, toxicology, physical chemistry and pathophysiology.
• Knowledge of computerized databases, texts, and files.
• Knowledge of back-up medical consultants.
• Experience and understanding of drug-disease interactions.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; adaptable to varied caller types.

Responsibilities

• Provide initial management advice and follow-up for emergency and informational calls; assess seriousness and provide clear, caller-appropriate recommendations.
• Direct, assist and back up Specialists in Poison Information and CPCS hotline providers.
• Direct medical advice by students and consultants; supervise as needed.
