Job summary

LAUKOA is seeking an experienced HVAC Mechanic to provide 24/7 on-site support at the NIST Boulder campus. You will monitor and maintain HVAC and refrigeration systems, respond to alarms, perform rounds, and assist with Central Utility Plant operations.

The role requires strong troubleshooting skills, 5+ years in relevant environments, EPA 608 certification, and experience with BAC/CMMS systems. This position involves rotating shifts and on-site work in Boulder, CO.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years HVAC mechanic experience in commercial, industrial, institutional, or central plant environments.
• Current Universal CFC/EPA Section 608 certification is required.
• Workers handling refrigerants must meet Class III technician requirements of 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F.
• Experience with packaged HVAC units, air handling units, refrigeration equipment, pumps, and related mechanical systems.
• Experience with building automation systems and computerized maintenance management systems is preferred.
• Factory training or certification for Liebert, Data Aire, Carrier, Ingersoll Rand, or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Remain on the NIST Boulder campus during shift and respond to alarms within 15 minutes.
• Support Central Utility Plant operations and respond to HVAC alarms, leaks, and equipment failures.
• Perform mechanical room rounds and document conditions with daily reports.
• Maintain and repair packaged units, AHUs, pumps, and related systems.
• Monitor and respond to after-hours Metasys alarms as assigned.
• Notify COR and management of refrigerant leaks and major repair needs.
• Complete Maximo work orders, preventive maintenance checklists, readings, and repair records.
• Coordinate with on-duty Stationary Engineer using radios or other communication tools.
• Support preventive maintenance at Boulder and Fort Collins sites.
