Job summary

LAUKOA is seeking experienced HVAC Mechanics to provide on-site, 24/7/365 support for the NIST Boulder campus. The HVAC Mechanic will monitor and maintain HVAC and refrigeration systems, respond to alarms, perform preventive maintenance and support Central Utility Plant and campus operations.

The role requires a minimum of five years in similar environments and a Universal EPA Section 608 certification; familiarity with Maximo CMMS and BAS is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years HVAC mechanic experience in commercial/industrial/central plant environments.
• Universal CFCEPA Section 608 certification required.
• Class III refrigerant handling per 40 CFR Part 82 Subpart F.
• Experience maintaining packaged HVAC units, AHUs, pumps and controls.
• Experience with BAS and CMMS preferred.
• Certifications for Liebert/Data Aire/Carrier/IR equipment preferred when applicable.

Responsibilities

• Remain on the NIST Boulder campus during shifts and respond to alarms within 15 minutes.
• Support Central Utility Plant operations and respond to alarms, leaks, equipment failures and other conditions.
• Perform mechanical room rounds and document conditions in daily reports.
• Carry out preventive maintenance and minor repairs on HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Monitor after‑hours Metasys alarms and respond as assigned.
• Handle refrigerants following federal requirements and maintain transfer/ leak/ recovery records.
• Notify COR and management of leaks, failures, outages and major repairs within required timeframes.
• Complete Maximo work orders, PM checklists, readings and repair records.
• Coordinate with on‑duty Stationary Engineer using radios or other communication equipment.
• Provide preventive maintenance support at Boulder and Fort Collins sites as needed.
