Job summary

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission seeks a Traffic Operations Center Technician 1 to monitor real-time traffic, coordinate communications, and dispatch emergency resources around the clock. You will maintain safety for customers and employees while travel on the turnpike system.

Responsibilities include notifying agencies, updating incident records in the tracking system, and monitoring CCTV and weather alerts to respond effectively to events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent certification.
• One year of experience in an emergency dispatch center handling communications, emergency calls or radio dispatches.
• ETC certification must be obtained by end of trial/probation period.
• CLEAN/NCIC certification must be obtained within ninety days.
• Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute on a PTc test.
• Clean criminal history record and required security clearances.
• Attention to detail, customer-focused mindset, flexibility, safety, teamwork and technical innovation.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with customers, staff, 911 centers, media and external agencies by phone, radio or electronic means to identify needs for assistance.
• Provides customer service via telephone and electronic information systems and assists with traveler alerts.
• Dispatches service and emergency resources including police, fire, medical, safety patrol and wrecker services; notifies agencies.
• Documents and updates all activities and resources for each incident through the Traffic Management Tracking System.
• Receives updates from emergency and non-emergency units to ensure safety and security of the highway.
• Monitors traffic feeds, CCTV and other tech to identify incidents and issues impacting operations.
• Notifies key personnel of significant incidents and weather per emergency procedures.
• Processes emergency alarms from automated systems across PTC facilities.
• Conducts inquiries for license plates and driver’s licenses for state police and transmits to law enforcement.
• Obtains hazardous material information and communicates to responders.
• Monitors weather conditions from weather services and related systems.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
