Job summary

National Public Safety Careers is seeking 911 Call Takers to receive emergency calls, confirm incident locations, document vital details for responders, and guide callers with calm instructions.

Shifts may include nights, weekends, and overtime. You will use dispatch software, follow scripted questions, enter information accurately, and provide pre-arrival instructions after training. Strong listening, typing, and communication are essential, and background checks and assessments are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; dispatch experience not always required.
• Strong listening and communication skills are essential.
• Ability to follow structured procedures and complete assessments as required by the hiring agency.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming emergency calls and assigned nonemergency lines.
• Confirm incident location and caller’s callback information.
• Use approved questions to identify nature and urgency of the situation.
• Enter accurate details into call-processing or dispatch software.
• Forward incident information promptly to the appropriate dispatch function.
• Provide pre-arrival instructions only after training and certification.
