Job summary

Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) invites you to join its 2027 Summer Internship Program in Carmel, IN or Eagan, MN. You will work on real features in production applications, with a focus on Python, Java, Angular/TypeScript, and AI-enabled tooling, gaining hands-on experience in modern development practices.

This internship runs June 2 to August 13, 2027, averages about 40 hours per week on site, with potential for part-time remote work during the school year.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a graduate level degree in AI, CS/Tech, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
• Hands-on skills in Python, Java, Angular/TypeScript and Git/GitHub workflows.
• Interest in AI/LLMs, prompt engineering, and automation in engineering problems.

Responsibilities

• Build real features in production applications and services with engineers.
• Explore AI-enabled engineering using Python, GitHub workflows, and generative AI.
• Contribute to data pipelines, observability dashboards, and automated remediation workflows.
• Attend intern socials, development programming, and networking activities.
• Summarize project work and recommendations in a final presentation.

What You’ll Do As a MISO Intern:

• Build real features in production applications and services—pairing with engineers, shipping code, and learning modern development practices (Angular/TypeScript, Java, CI/CD, containers).
• Explore AI‑enabled engineering: Python + GitHub workflows, generative AI/LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, and agent frameworks to automate tasks, improve developer workflows, and power new user experiences.
• Contribute to platform/operations work: data pipelines, observability dashboards, and automated remediation workflows that keep systems healthy and reliable.
• Attend community service events, intern socials, networking activities, and development programming to help you grow your confidence, build relationships, and understand MISO’s broader mission.
• Wrap up the summer with a final presentation summarizing your project work, recommendations, and areas of impact.

We Are Looking For Students Who…

• Are pursuing Computer Science/Technology, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, or a related degree.
• Have hands‑on skills in Python, Java, Angular/TypeScript, and are comfortable with Git/GitHub, CI/CD, containers, and modern IDEs (VS Code, IntelliJ, Cursor).
• Are excited by generative AI/LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, agent frameworks, and applying AI to practical engineering problems.
• Understand (or want to learn) cloud infrastructure concepts, networking basics, observability/monitoring, automation principles, and security fundamentals.
• Show curiosity, accountability, and collaboration—eager to learn unfamiliar codebases and work in team settings to solve real problems.

Rate: $22 USD per hour

To be eligible for the program, you must be available to start Wednesday, June 2 nd , 2027 and continue through Friday, August 13 th , 2027. No VISA sponsorship opportunities, including OPT/CPT.
