Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) offers a 2027 Summer Internship Program for graduate students in AI, CS/Tech, or related fields. You will build features in production apps, work with Angular/TypeScript, Java, and CI/CD, and explore AI-enabled engineering with Python and LLMs.

You will contribute to platform operations, data pipelines, and observability dashboards, with housing assistance and on-site work in Carmel, IN or Eagan, MN.

Qualifications

Hands-on Python development experience.
Familiarity with modern development workflows (CI/CD, containers).
Exposure to AI/LLMs and prompt engineering is a plus.

Responsibilities

Build features in production applications and services, partnering with engineers, shipping code.
Explore AI-enabled engineering: Python, GitHub workflows, generative AI/LLMs, and agent frameworks.
Contribute to data pipelines, observability dashboards, and automated remediation workflows.
Present project work and recommendations at internship end.

What You’ll Do As a MISO Intern:

Build real features in production applications and services—pairing with engineers, shipping code, and learning modern development practices (Angular/TypeScript, Java, CI/CD, containers).
Explore AI‑enabled engineering: Python + GitHub workflows, generative AI/LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, and agent frameworks to automate tasks, improve developer workflows, and power new user experiences.
Contribute to platform/operations work: data pipelines, observability dashboards, and automated remediation workflows that keep systems healthy and reliable.
Attend community service events, intern socials, networking activities, and development programming to help you grow your confidence, build relationships, and understand MISO’s broader mission.
Wrap up the summer with a final presentation summarizing your project work, recommendations, and areas of impact.

We Are Looking For Students Who…

Are pursuing Computer Science/Technology, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, or a related degree.
Have hands‑on skills in Python, Java, Angular/TypeScript, and are comfortable with Git/GitHub, CI/CD, containers, and modern IDEs (VS Code, IntelliJ, Cursor).
Are excited by generative AI/LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, agent frameworks, and applying AI to practical engineering problems.
Understand (or want to learn) cloud infrastructure concepts, networking basics, observability/monitoring, automation principles, and security fundamentals.
Show curiosity, accountability, and collaboration—eager to learn unfamiliar codebases and work in team settings to solve real problems.

Rate: $22 USD per hour

To be eligible for the program, you must be available to start Wednesday, June 2 nd , 2027 and continue through Friday, August 13 th , 2027. No VISA sponsorship opportunities, including OPT/CPT.
