Job summary

MISO is offering a 2027 Summer Internship Program in Carmel, Indiana for graduate students in AI, CS/Tech, Data Science and related fields. You will tackle real AI and software challenges, building prototypes to production‑ready tools using Python and modern AI tech.

Pay is $22 per hour with housing assistance. Expect about 40 hours per week on-site, with potential for part-time remote work during school years, plus development activities and a final project presentation.

Qualifications

Pursuing AI/CS/DS at undergraduate or graduate level.
Proficiency with Python, GitHub, GitHub Copilot, generative AI, LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, agent frameworks.

Responsibilities

Work on AI and software projects from prototype to production-ready tools using Python, GitHub, cloud platforms, and AI frameworks.
Support AI-enabled workflows such as data pipelines, automation, LLM/RAG agents, dashboards, or pilot features.
Collaborate with engineers, product teams, and specialists to refine requirements and test concepts.
Participate in community events, intern socials, and development programming.
Deliver a final presentation summarizing project work and impact.

Rate: $22 USD per hour

What You’ll Do As a MISO Intern:

Work on real AI and software engineering projects that help MISO explore and build new technologies — from early prototypes to production‑ready tools using Python, GitHub, cloud platforms, and modern AI frameworks.
Support AI‑enabled workflows such as data pipelines, automation, LLM/RAG agents, observability dashboards, or pilot features that test new ideas quickly and safely.
Collaborate closely with engineers, product teams, and emerging‑tech specialists to refine requirements, test concepts, evaluate performance, and improve system reliability.
Attend community service events, intern socials, networking activities, and development programming to help you grow your confidence, build relationships, and understand MISO’s broader mission.
Wrap up the summer with a final presentation summarizing your project work, recommendations, and areas of impact.

We Are Looking For Students Who…

Are pursuing Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science/Technology, Computer Engineering, or Data Science at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Have skills in Python, GitHub, GitHub Copilot, generative AI, LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, agent frameworks, and automation principles.
Understand or are excited to learn cloud infrastructure concepts, networking basics, observability, and security fundamentals.
Are curious, creative, collaborative learners who enjoy experimenting, solving problems, and exploring new technologies.
Communicate well, ask thoughtful questions, and thrive in hands‑on technical environments.

To be eligible for the program, you must be available to start Wednesday, June 2nd, 2027 and continue through Friday, August 13th, 2027. No VISA sponsorship opportunities, including OPT/CPT.
