Job summary

Somic America, Inc. is seeking a Shipping/Receiving Operator in Brewer, Maine on 1st shift to help move materials efficiently and accurately. You will load, unload, verify documents, and ensure shipments are prepared and tracked with care.

You will use PLEX, operate a forklift, and maintain quality through 5S and kaizen practices while supporting the team’s goal of 100% on-time delivery and safe operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to read manifests, bills of lading, memos and work instructions.
• Basic math skills using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, rates, ratios and percentages.
• Basic Microsoft Excel and Word skills and the ability to use scanners and PLEX.
• Ability to safely operate, or learn to operate, a forklift.

Responsibilities

• Load outbound shipments and unload incoming materials from trucks, pallets, racks, and shelves.
• Verify packing slips, pallet tags, quantities, and shipment paperwork for accuracy.
• Stage, strap, wrap, label, and prepare customer, service-part, and export shipments.
• Use PLEX to receive materials, scan shipments, assign serial numbers, and maintain traceability.
• Sort returnable packaging and mixed component skids while recording tote and pallet quantities.
• Print Kanban labels and customs invoices and prepare FedEx, UPS, and third‑party billing paperwork.
• Safely operate a forklift, tugger, and electric hoist and complete required equipment checks and logs.
• Maintain FIFO, packaging inventory, standardized work, 5S, planned maintenance, and kaizen improvements.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your Step Counter Will Be Impressed

This is an active, hands-on position. Employees regularly stand and walk for eight or more hours, reach, handle materials, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb in and out of a forklift. Employees regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. Work is performed around moving mechanical equipment in a moderately noisy manufacturing environment.
