Job summary

Somic America, Inc. in Brewer, Maine is seeking a Shipping and Receiving Operator for first shift. You will load outbound shipments, unload incoming materials, and ensure accurate, on-time deliveries while maintaining traceability in the PLEX system.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to read manifests, bills of lading, correspondence, memos, and work instructions.
• Basic math skills using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, and percentages.
• Basic Microsoft Excel and Word skills and the ability to use scanners and PLEX.
• Ability to safely operate, or learn to operate, a forklift.

Responsibilities

• Load outbound shipments and unload incoming materials from trucks, pallets, racks, and shelves.
• Verify packing slips, pallet tags, quantities, and shipment paperwork for accuracy.
• Stage, strap, wrap, label, and prepare customer, service-part, and export shipments.
• Use PLEX to receive materials, scan shipments, assign serial numbers, and maintain traceability.
• Sort returnable packaging and mixed component skids while recording tote and pallet quantities.
• Print Kanban labels and customs invoices and prepare FedEx, UPS, and third-party billing paperwork.
• Safely operate a forklift, tugger, and electric hoist and complete required equipment checks and logs.
• Maintain FIFO, packaging inventory, standardized work, 5S, planned maintenance, and kaizen improvements.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Shipping/Receiving Operator, you’ll help make sure incoming materials are received correctly and customer shipments leave safely, accurately, and on time. In short: the right product, in the right place, at the right time.

Your Step Counter Will Be Impressed

This is an active, hands-on position. Employees regularly stand and walk for eight or more hours, reach, handle materials, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb in and out of a forklift. Employees regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. Work is performed around moving mechanical equipment in a moderately noisy manufacturing environment.
