Job summary

Heidelberg Materials North America in Indiana is seeking a skilled heavy equipment mechanic to inspect, diagnose, and repair mobile equipment across our plant sites. You will perform preventive maintenance and collaborate with operations to maximize reliability and uptime.

You must understand diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems and powertrains, read technical manuals, and work safely in a production environment.

Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair heavy mobile equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrains.
  • Commitment to safety with ability to follow policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read manuals, schematics and diagnostics to resolve issues.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy mobile equipment including haul trucks and loaders.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to maximize reliability and uptime.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, drivetrain, and engine systems.
  • Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately.
  • Collaborate with operations to support safe plant production.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mobile heavy equipment including haul trucks, loaders, excavators, dozers, and support equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to maximize equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, drivetrain, and engine systems to minimize downtime.
  • Complete work orders, maintenance documentation, and equipment inspections accurately and timely.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to support safe and continuous plant production.
What Are We Looking For
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy mobile equipment in an industrial, mining, quarry, construction, or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, powertrains, and related mechanical components.
  • Commitment to safety with the ability to follow company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic information to effectively resolve equipment issues.
  • Dependable team player with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently when needed.
Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check.
  • Some positions require FMCSA regulated ongoing drug and alcohol testing.
Work Environment
  • Role operates primarily in environments where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity, and elevated noise level.
