Job summary

JobCubby, on behalf of a partner company, is seeking an Ubuntu Security Engineer based in Turkey. You will join a globally distributed security engineering team working to protect open source software and the Ubuntu ecosystem.

This role blends security engineering with software development, code auditing, vulnerability research, and security tooling. You will collaborate with internal teams and upstream developers to deliver robust security fixes and contribute to open source projects.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of common software security vulnerabilities and attack techniques.
• Experience with coordinated vulnerability disclosure practices and responsible security communication.
• Familiarity with open source development tools, workflows, and methodologies.
• Proficiency in at least one language such as C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Experience with Linux, Ubuntu or Debian-based environments.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyse, investigate, fix, and test vulnerabilities in Ubuntu packages.
• Monitor vulnerabilities from discovery to release using internal tools.
• Collaborate with engineers, upstream developers, and the open source community on patches.
• Audit source code to identify security weaknesses and vulnerabilities.
• Assess risks and prioritise remediation based on impact and urgency.
• Design features and automation to improve security workflows.
• Document findings and remediation activities clearly.
• Engage with open source communities and industry events.
• Work effectively in a globally distributed team with autonomy.
