Job summary

Town of Smyrna seeks a Municipal Worker I to support Public Works, performing maintenance on town-owned buildings and property with supervision. This non-exempt role reports to the Public Works Operations Manager or designee and operates around Town facilities, including Town Hall and the Public Works Building.

The position requires basic trades skills, custodial ability, and physical endurance, including lifting up to 75 pounds.

Qualifications

1–2 years in skilled trades and building maintenance preferred.
Some custodial skills.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

Perform minor repairs to mechanical and infrastructure under direct supervision.
Carpentry and plumbing tasks as required.
Install and maintain equipment and pipe fixtures.
Maintenance of grounds and landscaping of the town properties; Paint the interior and exterior of buildings and equipment.
Open and close Town facilities as directed.
Repair and clean sidewalks and other outdoor surfaces.
Move goods and equipment using the town provided vehicle.
Remove ice and snow from sidewalks and other areas.
Move furniture and equipment as required.
Perform custodial or security work as required.
Maintain regular and timely attendance.
Perform duties in a safe manner.
Maintain a positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes harmonious relations with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
Other duties as assigned.
