Job description
Overview

A precision tooling designer creates tools, dies, moulds, and fixtures for manufacturing, collaborating with production engineers and cross functional teams internally and externally to design and develop innovative and efficient tooling solutions.

Key responsibilities include drafting detailed specifications and tolerances, conducting cost analyses and feasibility studies, overseeing the fabrication and assembly & testing of prototypes. Ensuring all designs meet project requirements, quality, and safety standards. Tool designers also stay updated on industry trends and provide technical support throughout the production process not limited to debug, test, assembly & measurement jig design; commission the company’s product, jigs and fixtures, customized semi and fully automatic machines or assemblies.

· Solid Experience in Tool Design & Development

· Technical Design and Prototyping & Testing for Costs Feasibility Analysis

· Leadership in the layout drawing, drafting details with tolerance study

· ASME drafting standards, geometric dimensioning and PDM/ PLM system

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Conceptualize design, develop new tools, dies, jigs, moulds, fixtures, modify and reverse engineering for various manufacturing processes, focusing on efficiency, precision, and cost-effectiveness
  2. Create detailed drawings, schematics, and 3D models and ensure designs meet project specifications, mechanical movement, function and performance
  3. Conduct feasibility studies, cost effectiveness to ensure all tools that are designed and fabricated compliance with safety regulations and a tooling project remain within budget guidelines
  4. Manage and review design activities from planning phase to final acceptance. Review and update existing tooling to improve performance, reduce breakdowns, and minimize maintenance costs.
  5. Responsible to coordinate with in-house engineering, production machinists to oversee the fabrication and testing of prototypes to validate designs, identify potential flaws, refine solutions and provide technical support.
  6. Maintain accurate design documentation, update databases, prepare project progress reports and proper documentation controls complying with ISO9001:2015 for the management and stakeholders
  7. Attend customer feedback, issue of quality defects, review and update existing tooling to improve performance, reduce breakdowns, and minimize maintenance costs
  8. Stay informed about the latest advancements, technologies, and industry trends to continuously improve tool design strategies and relevant manufacturing processes
  9. 5.5-day work week
Job Requirements
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in the field of manufacturing, mechanical or mechatronics engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience

  • Good analytical, project management and machining techniques
