Job summary

A*STAR RESEARCH ENTITIES is seeking an engineer to advance laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) processes for industrial components in Singapore. You will plan development activities, design experiments, and validate process parameters to deliver robust manufacturing workflows.

The role requires strong manufacturing fundamentals, experience in process development or additive manufacturing, and the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams to achieve production readiness.

Qualifications

• Degree or Master's in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Aerospace/Materials/Mechatronics or related discipline.
• For Senior Engineer, 3–10 years in manufacturing engineering, process development or related fields; engineers considered with fewer years.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimise LPBF processes for industrial components and applications.
• Plan and execute process development activities including experimental design and validation.
• Establish process parameters, build strategies and manufacturing workflows.
• Investigate defects and variability, identify root causes.
• Evaluate component quality, geometry, material properties and performance.
• Develop hybrid workflows with additive, machining, inspection and post-processing.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on manufacturability and readiness.
• Contribute to standards, best practices and process documentation.
• Support collaborative research and industrial projects in advanced manufacturing.
• Prepare technical reports, deliverables and proposals.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimise LPBF processes for industrial components and applications.
• Plan and execute process development activities, including experimental design and process validation.
• Establish suitable process parameters, build strategies and manufacturing workflows.
• Investigate process-related challenges and identify root causes of manufacturing defects and variability.
• Evaluate component quality, dimensional accuracy, material properties and manufacturing performance.
• Develop and integrate hybrid manufacturing workflows involving additive, machining, inspection and post-processing technologies.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to assess manufacturability and production readiness.
• Contribute to the development of manufacturing standards, best practices and process documentation.
• Support collaborative research and industrial projects involving advanced manufacturing technologies.
• Contribute to technical reports, project deliverables and proposal development activities.

Requirements

• Degree or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline.
• For appointment as Senior Engineer, candidates would typically possess 3-10 years of relevant experience in manufacturing engineering, process development, additive manufacturing, production engineering, industrial engineering or related fields. Candidates with fewer years of relevant experience may be considered for appointment as Engineer.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering fundamentals.
• Experience in experimental work, engineering development or process improvement activities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Prior experience in additive manufacturing is advantageous but not essential for candidates with strong manufacturing or engineering backgrounds
