Role Purpose
The Operations Training Assistant Manager is responsible for leading the end-to-end training agenda for Store Operations, covering training strategy, planning, content development, delivery, implementation and effectiveness measurement. The role partners closely with the Head of Operations and the People & Culture Business Partner Lead to build frontline capability, strengthen operational standards, improve customer experience and support business performance through structured, practical and scalable learning solutions. The role also ensures training programmes, materials and store execution standards are aligned with relevant brand guides, franchisee agreement requirements, company operating procedures and the Singapore Retail Skills Framework, including the capability expectations for the Assistant Retail Supervisor role.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Training Strategy and Capability Planning
- Develop and execute the annual training strategy and calendar for Store Operations in alignment with business priorities, operational standards and People & Culture plans.
- Identify capability gaps across frontline, supervisory and store leadership roles through business feedback, operational performance data and stakeholder input.
- Reference the Singapore Retail Skills Framework for the Assistant Retail Supervisor role to identify relevant core skills, supervisory skills and technical competencies required for store team capability building.
- Translate capability needs into practical learning plans that support sales performance, service excellence, compliance, productivity and employee engagement.
- Build the yearly training plan around the progressive development of core retail skills, supervisory skills and readiness indicators that support internal progression into Assistant Retail Supervisor and future store leadership roles.
Training Design, Content Development and Governance
- Design, develop and refresh training materials, toolkits, guides and learning resources for classroom, on-the-job, digital and social learning platforms, ensuring alignment with approved brand guides, franchisee agreement obligations and company operating procedures.
- Ensure training content is simple, relevant, operationally practical and aligned with company standards, policies, customer service expectations, brand requirements, franchisee agreement standards and compliance requirements.
- Maintain training governance by keeping learning materials current, consistent and accessible for store teams and stakeholders.
- Maintain appropriate governance over brand and franchise-related training content by ensuring updates from brand principals, franchisors or internal stakeholders are translated into clear learning materials and operational guidance for store teams.
Training Delivery and Implementation
- Plan and deliver core training programmes for new hires, existing team members, store trainers, supervisors and store leaders.
- Partner with Operations leaders to ensure smooth roll-out of training initiatives across stores, including scheduling, communication, attendance tracking and follow-through.
- Coach and equip store trainers and line managers to sustain learning application through effective on-the-job coaching and reinforcement.
- Enable store teams to build core skills and supervisory skills through structured learning pathways, practical coaching tools and on-the-job reinforcement that prepare high-potential team members for succession into supervisory roles.
Stakeholder Partnership and Business Support
- Work closely with the Head of Operations, People & Culture Business Partner Lead, Area Managers and functional stakeholders to align training priorities with operational and people objectives.
- Provide training support for new store openings, operational changes, service initiatives, compliance updates, brand guide updates, franchisee agreement requirements and business transformation projects.
- Act as a practical learning partner to Operations by providing timely solutions that improve readiness, execution consistency and frontline confidence.
- Partner with Operations, People & Culture and relevant commercial or brand stakeholders to support readiness for brand audits, franchise reviews and internal compliance checks where training evidence or store execution standards are required.
Training Effectiveness and Continuous Improvement
- Measure training effectiveness through attendance, completion, learner feedback, operational observations, service indicators and agreed business outcomes.
- Prepare regular updates, insights and recommendations for Operations and People & Culture stakeholders to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Track learning progress, capability readiness and training outcomes to inform the store talent review, succession pipeline and targeted development plans for emerging supervisors.
- Continuously improve training design and delivery based on business feedback, learner needs, operational results and market best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Education
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, Human Resources Management, or a related discipline.
- Candidates with relevant experience and a strong track record may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
2. Experience, Skills & Competencies
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in learning and development, training strategy, training planning and programme delivery, preferably within retail operations or a customer-facing service environment.
- Strong experience in designing training content, facilitating learning sessions, managing training roll-outs and coaching store trainers or frontline leaders.
- Good understanding of retail operations, compliance, and customer service standards.
- Proven ability to diagnose skills and competency gaps, translate them into learning interventions and link training outcomes to sales, service, compliance and operational performance.
- Familiarity with the Singapore Retail Skills Framework and its application to retail workforce development, particularly for Assistant Retail Supervisor capability building, core skills, supervisory skills and progression pathways.
- Leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
- Customer-centric mindset with a strong focus on service excellence.
- Strong planning, organisation, and execution skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to travel regularly within the assigned area and work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays when required.
