Job summary

HOYA Electronics Singapore Pte Ltd is seeking a Senior Polishing Engineer to optimize polishing processes in our mask blank factory. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive yield, capacity, and performance, and you will conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve issues.

The role requires hands-on problem solving, ownership of polishing processes, and the ability to develop SOPs while maintaining high quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or 2–3 years semiconductor experience.
• Proficiency in Power BI and Excel.
• Knowledge of CMP polishing, wet cleaning, and related processes.

Responsibilities

• Drive polishing process improvements to enhance yield, quality, and manufacturing capacity.
• Own and sustain polishing processes, ensuring consistent performance and compliance with requirements.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve process issues.
• Troubleshoot processes and equipment to maximize machine uptime and reliability.
• Analyse process data, perform experiments, and prepare technical reports for decision-making.
• Develop, maintain, and improve SOPs for manufacturing operations.
• Collaborate on equipment qualification, installation, upgrades, and maintenance; support spare parts management.

Get to Know the Role

We are looking for a Senior Polishing Engineer to optimize polishing processes in our mask blank factory, improving yield, capacity, and overall process performance. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to conduct Root Cause Analysis, resolve process issues, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement through data analysis and reporting. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, ownership of the polishing process, and the ability to develop SOPs and maintain high standards of quality and operational efficiency.

• Drive the improvement of polishing processes to enhance yield, quality, and manufacturing capacity
• Own and sustain polishing processes, ensuring consistent performance and compliance with operational requirements
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to resolve process and product issues
• Troubleshoot processes and equipment to maximize machine reliability and uptime
• Analyse process data, perform experiments, and prepare technical reports to support decision-making and performance tracking
• Develop, maintain, and improve SOPs for manufacturing operations
• Collaborate on equipment qualification, installation, upgrades, and maintenance while supporting spare parts and consumables management
• Any ad hoc duties assigned by supervisor / manager

Skills and Competencies Profile

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or any related field, OR
• 2 – 3 years of relevant working experience in the semiconductor industry, or prior experience in wet cleaning, CMP polishing, or related roles, is preferred

Technical Skills:

• Basic computer skills with proficiency in Power BI and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
• Good knowledge of wet cleaning, wet etching, clean technology, and CMP polishing
• Good knowledge of SPC, Design of Experiments (DOE), and process and equipment FMEA

Soft Skills:

• Able to work independently with initiative and accountability in a fast-paced environment
• Strong team player with good communication and problem-solving skills
• Adaptable and detail-oriented

Additional Information

• Able to work in a cleanroom environment and perform overtime as and when necessary
