Job summary

HOYA Electronics Singapore is seeking a lead Data Scientist to build and scale data-driven capabilities across our manufacturing operations. This foundational role delivers high-impact analytics and ML solutions while helping establish the data science function, standards, and roadmap across wafer fabrication, assembly, and test operations.

You will balance deep technical expertise with manufacturing domain awareness and stakeholder engagement across multiple fabs and business units.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • 5-8+ years of data science or ML experience, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Strong programming with Python and R.
  • Experience with ML frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
  • Expertise in data analysis, SPC, and DOE.
  • Experience with time-series data and predictive maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute data science and AI strategy with process and engineering teams.
  • Build scalable data pipelines for manufacturing, sensor, and tool data.
  • Develop models for predictive maintenance, yield, and process optimization.
  • Deliver production-grade ML models with monitoring and lifecycle management.
  • Drive AI/ML adoption in manufacturing through internal platforms.

Get to Know the Role

We are seeking a lead Data Scientist to build and scale data-driven capabilities across our manufacturing operations. This is a new foundational role responsible not only for delivering high-impact analytics and machine learning solutions, but also for helping establishing the data science function, standards, and roadmap. As the first data science hire in the region, you will play a critical role in driving digital transformation across wafer fabrication, assembly, and test operations. This role requires a balance of deep technical expertise, manufacturing domain awareness, and strong stakeholder engagement across multiple fabs and business units. You will deliver high-impact use cases while building a scalable data science foundation to support smart manufacturing, yield improvement, and operational excellence

  • Define and execute the data science and AI strategy aligned with business priorities by partnering with process, equipment, and integration engineering teams to operationalize insights and drive adoption of data-driven decisions
  • Establish best practices for data collection, preparation, modeling, and deployment including development of scalable data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and integration of manufacturing, sensor, and tool data
  • Develop models to solve manufacturing challenges, such as:
  • Predictive maintenance
  • Yield/quality optimization
  • Demand forecasting
  • Process optimization
  • Apply statistical analysis, machine learning, and AI techniques to generate actionable insights
  • Drive AI/ML Adoption in Manufacturing using existing internal tools and identifying additional platform to Industrial IoT analytics, Computer vision, and Optimization algorithms for scheduling
  • Define success metrics (yield improvement, cycle time reduction, equipment uptime, cost savings) and track measurable ROI of data science initiatives
  • Design, deploy, and maintain production-grade machine learning models (MLOps), including monitoring model performance, drift detection, and lifecycle management
Other Responsibilities
  • Promote a data-driven culture across the organization
  • Identify and advocate for scalable data platforms and tools (cloud, IoT, edge analytics where applicable)
  • Collaborate with IT engineering to: (i) Define data architecture and pipelines; and (ii) Improve data quality and accessibility
Skills and Competencies Profile
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 5-8+ years of experience in data science or machine learning (experience in semiconductor or manufacturing strongly preferred)
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R (or similar)
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.)
  • Expertise in data analysis, statistical process control, and experimental design (e.g. DOE)
  • Knowledge and experience with time-series analysis (sensor, machine data); predictive maintenance models, and process optimization frameworks
  • Experience working with large datasets and data wrangling
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Able to communicate effectively across functions and work well with different departments
