Job summary

Yakunboys Private Limited is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to join our busy kitchen team on a full-time basis with a 4-day work week. This role is based in the Upper Paya Lebar North-East Region and involves supporting culinary operations, preparing ingredients and maintaining kitchen hygiene.

We offer on-the-job training and a collaborative kitchen culture with competitive remuneration. A Basic Food Hygiene Certificate is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a kitchen role within hospitality.
• Certification in food safety or Basic Food Hygiene is advantageous.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Preparing ingredients for cooking, washing, peeling, chopping and portioning vegetables, proteins and other items.
• Assisting chefs and senior staff with food preparation and cooking tasks.
• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across the kitchen and on surfaces, equipment and utensils.
• Handling and storing food items safely, following temperature controls.
• Assisting with plating and presentation according to standards.
• Operating kitchen equipment safely, including slicers, ovens, grills and tools.
• Supporting inventory by receiving, storing and rotating deliveries.
• Clearing and cleaning workstations during and after service.
• Following health and safety regulations and company policies at all times.
• Contributing to a positive, collaborative team environment.

About the role

Stray Cafe is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to join our dynamic kitchen team on a full-time basis with a 4-day work week. This role is based in the Upper Paya Lebar North-East Region and offers an excellent opportunity to be part of a fast-paced hospitality environment. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our culinary operations, ensuring our kitchen runs smoothly and efficiently whilst maintaining the highest standards of food preparation and hygiene.

Key responsibilities

1. Preparing ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning of vegetables, proteins and other food items
2. Assisting chefs and senior kitchen staff with food preparation and cooking tasks
3. Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the kitchen, including regular cleaning of work surfaces, equipment and utensils
4. Handling and storing food items correctly, following food safety and temperature control procedures
5. Assisting with plating and presentation of dishes according to company standards
6. Operating kitchen equipment safely and responsibly, including slicers, ovens, grills and other tools
7. Supporting inventory management by helping to receive, store and rotate food deliveries
8. Clearing and cleaning workstations during and after service
9. Following all health and safety regulations and company policies at all times
10. Contributing to a positive, collaborative team environment

What we're looking for

1. Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant or in a similar kitchen role within a hospitality environment
2. A strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards, with relevant certification (such as Basic Food Hygiene Certificate) being highly advantageous
3. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
4. Good physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift items regularly
5. Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining cleanliness and organisation
6. Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to follow instructions from senior kitchen staff
7. Reliability and punctuality with a positive attitude towards work
8. Basic knife skills and familiarity with common kitchen equipment
9. A genuine passion for food preparation and the hospitality industry
