Job summary

Placement Professionals in Singapore is seeking an experienced professional to manage marine insurance claims, assess contract and incident documents, and coordinate with insurers and experts. You will provide risk and compliance support across contracts and agreements, ensuring adherence to maritime conventions and local laws.

You will also advise internal teams on claim procedures, contribute to policy risk assessments, and prepare management reports.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of relevant experience in marine insurance claims, shipping law, or maritime legal practice.
• Knowledge of marine insurance (Hull & Machinery, P&I, Cargo, Crew, Liability) and maritime conventions.
• Formal legal qualifications desirable.
• Strong legal drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills.
• Familiarity with charter parties, carriage of goods, and shipping contracts.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Insurance Claims Management

• Oversee the complete claims process for Hull & Machinery, Protection & Indemnity (P&I), Cargo, Liability, and Crew Injury/Work Injury Compensation claims.
• Evaluate the validity of claims by examining contracts, charter parties, incident reports, medical/legal records, and insurance policies.
• Ensure claims are promptly reported and submitted to insurers, brokers, and P&I Clubs in line with applicable policy requirements.
• Coordinate with surveyors, adjusters, and external legal counsel for claim assessments and negotiations.
• Monitor claim developments and follow up on recoveries to secure fair and timely settlements.

Legal & Compliance Support

• Support the review of insurance clauses contained in contracts, charter parties, and agreements.
• Prepare, review, and maintain correspondence, settlement agreements, and legal notices related to claims.
• Ensure adherence to international maritime conventions (MLC, SOLAS, MARPOL), flag state requirements, and applicable local legislation.
• Provide legal opinions and assess potential risks associated with claims.
• Assist with litigation or arbitration proceedings involving marine insurance disputes when necessary.

Risk & Policy Support

• Provide claims analysis and legal input during annual insurance renewals.
• Identify contractual and operational risks from a legal and insurance perspective.
• Advise internal stakeholders (Operations, Crewing, Technical, Finance) on claim procedures and risk mitigation.
• Contribute to loss prevention initiatives by highlighting recurring legal/claims issues.

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

1. Prepare claim status reports, trend analyses, and legal updates for management
2. Serve as the main point of contact for external parties, including insurers, brokers, correspondents, and P&I Clubs.
3. Provide training and guidance to operations and vessel staff on incident reporting and insurance requirements.

Requirements
