Job summary

ByteDance is seeking a traffic solution engineer and DevOps expert to support its Global System Service team. You will design and maintain proxy services, craft solutions from cloud and in-house platforms, and drive rapid prototyping to accelerate delivery.

You’ll build observability pipelines, triage incidents, and collaborate across regions while documenting reusable patterns for future projects. This role focuses on distributed traffic management for ByteDance’s data centers outside China.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, CS or related majors.
• Strong understanding of OSI Layer 4-7 protocols, including TCP/UDP, HTTP/1.1 & HTTP/2, TLS, DNS, and WebSocket.
• Solid knowledge of forward and reverse proxy mechanisms; hands-on experience with tools such as Nginx, Envoy, HAProxy, or equivalent.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across the network and application stack; diagnose DNS resolution, load balancing, TLS handshake, and app-layer failures.
• Strong communication skills—clear articulation to engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders; cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure and maintain flexible proxy service deployments with complex routing rules and access control.
• Partner with business stakeholders to translate traffic forwarding requirements into deployable proxy solutions.
• Prototype and iterate on traffic solutions to accelerate delivery and value.
• Build and maintain observability pipelines for logs, metrics, and usage analysis.
• Serve as first contact for online incidents and inquiries; triage and coordinate resolution.
• Document solution patterns and reusable configurations to accelerate future delivery and onboarding.
