Job summary

ByteDance is seeking a Product Policy Manager for GenAI Safety and Emerging Products within Trust & Safety. You will shape safety-by-design solutions, define risks, and develop enforcement strategies while balancing user safety with business needs.

You will collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Legal, Public Policy, and Operations to design and launch safe, compliant products, monitoring global regulatory trends and evolving policy frameworks as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in technology policy development, program management, trust and safety, compliance, or risk assessment.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in AI, public policy, politics, law, economics, behavioral sciences, or related field.
• Strong analytical reasoning, execution, and project management skills, with ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Deep understanding of policy and safety issues affecting AI and emerging tech.
• Excellent oral and written communication, with ability to translate complex challenges for cross-functional partners.
• Adaptability and sound judgment to evolve approach based on new information and market changes.

Responsibilities

• Shape safety-by-design solutions for AI-powered and emerging products.
• Research, define product risks, and develop safety policies, guidelines, and enforcement strategies.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to design and launch safe, compliant products.
• Develop, review, and refine product-specific policies for GenAI and emerging products.
• Conduct risk assessments pre-launch and post-launch, identify harms, and design mitigations with Safety/Product teams.
• Monitor policy enforcement trends and inform policy development and product improvements.
• Track regulatory developments and evolve policy frameworks accordingly.
• Promote user safety and transparency across ByteDance's AI initiatives.
• Prepare and present policy recommendations and updates to stakeholders at multiple levels.
