Job summary

MINDEF in Singapore seeks an experienced Safety and Occupational Health lead for the Artillery formation, overseeing safety management, advising on risks, and driving governance to promote a strong safety culture across formations. You will coordinate safety committees, develop SOPs and risk-based plans, conduct inspections and investigations, and guide Safety Officers.

Strong OSH knowledge, leadership, and ability to work independently are essential.

Qualifications

  • Education in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) or Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) is preferred.
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience in training governance, or safety-related appointments.
  • Strong competency in risk identification, assessment, mitigation and balanced judgement.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Applications with competencies in database management and trend analysis is advantageous.
  • Good safety knowledge including policies, processes and legislation.
  • Strong leadership and team-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Formation's Subject Matter Expert on safety and occupational health
  • Advise Formation Commander and staff on safety policies, risk trends and systemic vulnerabilities affecting Army intelligence operations
  • Support Formation Safety Committee and Safety & Health Conference including safety papers, incident reviews and policy recommendations
  • Drive safety culture and leadership across subordinate units
  • Oversee implementation of Formation safety and health systems including risk management and Army Safety Regulations compliance
  • Develop, review and implement Formation's Safety Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Management Plans
  • Coordinate safety assurance for Formation exercises, training activities and specialised operations
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits of subordinate units
  • Oversee safety investigations and incident reviews
  • Guide and support Unit Safety Officers and Institute Safety Officers
  • Support in planning and conduct of Formation-level safety education

Job description

What the role is:

Challenge(s)
  • Evaluating past incidents and near-misses, and identifying watch areas and proactive measures to ensure safe training and operations
  • Viewing processes and issues at the system level, while maintaining a keen eye on the sub-systems
  • Managing multiple concurrent tasks while keeping within the given timeline
What we are looking for:
