Job summary

MINDEF is seeking a Safety Inspector to lead safety inspections, audits and investigations to keep our units compliant with Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and ensure safe working conditions for trainers and national servicemen.

You will conduct monthly inspections, investigate incidents, analyze factors, and report trends. You will also liaise with the Army Safety Inspectorate and develop safety education materials while maintaining audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Education in any discipline.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in inspections or audits.
• Experience preparing and presenting safety data in reports.
• Competence in data management and analysis using digital tools.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to manage databases and safety records.
• Willingness to adopt new digital and AI tools for safety management.

Job description

What the role is:

You will be responsible for all safety matters within the unit. You will plan and execute safety inspections, audits, and investigations to maintain compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines and ensure safe working conditions for all trainers, full-time national servicemen, and operationally ready national servicemen.

What you will be working on:

• Conduct monthly workplace and site inspections across the unit and perform physical inspections for outfield exercises and high-risk activities
• Conduct safety investigations when incidents occur, analyse contributing factors, and recommend corrective measures
• Disseminate lessons learnt and track safety incidents and trends for use by Training Centres
• Maintain the unit's compliance with safety guidelines, monitor adherence to ground safety standards, and report non-compliance to the Unit Commander
• Organise unit-level Safety Days, facilitate participation in Army Quarterly Safety Seminars, and develop safety education materials
• Maintain audit readiness for internal audits and safety systems audits
• Function as the primary point of contact with the Army Safety Inspectorate on safety regulations, surveys, investigations, and safety systems
• Meeting the high standards expected of an Occupational Health and Safety practitioner, which requires extensive safety knowledge and experience, sharp mental alertness, and the ability to manage legal compliance pressures
• Addressing resistance and complacency to safety regulations among soldiers
• Engaging effectively with diverse range of stakeholders, including soldiers of all ranks and external agencies outside of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)
• Managing extensive data, documentation, and system compliance requirements for audits while maintaining a substantial physical presence in the unit

• At least 3 years of relevant experience in conducting inspections, audits, or managing safety-related responsibilities, including roles where these formed part of broader or secondary duties
• Experience preparing and presenting safety data and findings in reports and briefings
• Competence in data management and analysis using digital tools for tracking incidents, trends, and compliance metrics
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to manage databases and safety records to track trends and identify recurring issues
