Job summary

International Materials, LLC (IMI) seeks an experienced Freight Trader to join our Chartering team in Singapore. The role focuses on vessel fixtures, post-fixture support, and maintaining visibility of chartered vessels in a dynamic global dry bulk market.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in shipping as shipbroker/charterer/shipowner, strong negotiation skills, and established relationships with shipowners and brokers. Travel and cross-functional collaboration are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Maritime Management or related field.
• 5+ years in shipping as shipbroker, charterer, or shipowner.
• Experience brokering and/or chartering dry bulk vessels for cement, clinker, gypsum, coal, petcoke, iron ore, or similar commodities.
• Strong knowledge of dry freight markets, including fundamentals and pricing structures.
• Ability to create, maintain, and use models to evaluate and structure physical and financial freight trades.
• Strong existing knowledge of and relationships with shipowners and brokers.
• Strong negotiation skills with ability to achieve competitive outcomes.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel as required.
• Collaborative team player who can work across functions while meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Identify and secure suitable vessels for global transportation of dry bulk commodities.
• Assess feasibility and profitability of time-chartering vessels; develop charter management plans.
• Perform detailed freight market analysis to support pricing and optimize movements.
• Maintain regular contact with shipowners, operators, and brokers to monitor availability, rates, trends.
• Negotiate charter parties with owners, operators, and brokers.
• Prepare complete voyage plans and estimates.
• Work with Trading and Operations teams to support execution.
• Provide charter-party and fixture details to post-fixture teams.
• Maintain records and visibility of vessels chartered by the company.
• Report fixture results and freight market information to Traders and management.
• Measure and report performance of third-party service providers.
• Develop, maintain, and improve chartering procedures and operating practices.
• Support development of safety culture.
• Build relationships with key industry stakeholders to strengthen IMI's market presence.
• Contribute to business strategy and planning.
