YOUR NEW JOB

As a Cloud Image & Ubuntu Engineer, you’ll design, build, and maintain immutable Ubuntu AMIs and container images that power GPU-accelerated workloads on AWS. You’ll work closely with cloud, platform, and ML teams to implement secure, hardened images integrated with AWS EKS clusters. This is a 12-month contract role that is renewable, working onsite at a government agency office.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• Design, build, and maintain Ubuntu-based immutable AMIs and integrate them with AWS EKS clusters, including GPU node groups and autoscaling.
• Implement and manage image build pipelines using tools like Packer or EC2 Image Builder, supporting CI/CD for automated image promotion.
• Harden Ubuntu OS and images, manage patching, and enforce security baselines on AWS.
• Collaborate with cloud and ML teams to define best practices for EKS cluster and image configurations.
• Troubleshoot OS, container runtime, EKS, and AWS infrastructure issues, and produce documentation & runbooks for pipelines and deployments.

WHAT IS NEEDED FROM YOU

• Strong hands-on experience with Ubuntu Linux administration, tuning, hardening, and packaging.
• Proven AWS expertise: EKS, EC2/AMI lifecycle, IAM, VPC, Security Groups, S3, CloudWatch/CloudTrail.
• Containerization and Kubernetes experience, including Docker, container runtimes, & EKS node configuration; GPU node setup is a plus.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and image automation tools (Packer, EC2 Image Builder).
• Strong troubleshooting, collaboration, and documentation skills.

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU STAND OUT

• Prior experience supporting GPU-accelerated workloads or ML pipelines on AWS.
• Exposure to enterprise cloud or public sector environments.
• Knowledge of cloud security standards, OS hardening frameworks, and container best practices.
