Position: Chartering Manager, Dry Bulk
Location: Singapore
Segment: Handysize to Panamax, core focus Supramax/Ultramax
Agrocorp International is headquartered in Singapore with operations in 16 countries and 25 offices. For over 30 years, it has supplied diverse agricultural commodities and food ingredients, expanding from farm partnerships to processing and retail markets including premium pulses and plant-based foods.
We are hiring a Chartering Manager to run freight cover for Agrocorp's dry bulk cargo flows, Handysize to Panamax, with a core focus on Ultramax. The role starts as a cargo charterer's desk: securing tonnage for our sales and purchase programme at the right cost and on terms that match our commodity contracts. As the book grows, the role will extend into time charter-in and relet activity, and the successful candidate is expected to build and run that position.
Fix voyage and trip time charter tonnage, Handysize to Panamax with a core focus on Ultramax, to cover Agrocorp's cargo programme, negotiating with owners, operators and brokers.
Provide freight costing and voyage estimates to the trading desks for CFR/CIF offers, tenders and new business, and own the freight assumption from offer to fixture.
Align charter party terms back-to-back with GAFTA/FOSFA sale and purchase contracts (laycan, NOR, laytime terms, load/discharge rates, demurrage/despatch rates) to minimise unrecovered exposure.
Negotiate charter party terms and riders on GENCON 94, NYPE 93/2015 and Synacomex forms, including BIMCO bunker, sanctions and war risk clauses.
Negotiate and manage contracts of affreightment (COAs) and seasonal cargo programmes with owners and operators.
Ensure every counterparty and vessel passes KYC, sanctions and vessel screening before commitment.
Hand over clean fixtures to operations and support the operations and laytime desks on demurrage, despatch and voyage claims arising from fixture terms.
Track freight markets, vessel positions and trade lanes. Deliver a weekly market view and a monthly freight performance report (fixed vs budget vs market) to management.
Build the business case for, and then execute, time charter-in and relet activity within approved risk limits, including position management and, where approved, FFA and bunker hedging.
Fixes within approved authority limits. Fixtures above limits, period TC-in and any hedging require sign-off from the reporting manager.
Measured on freight cost vs budget and market, demurrage outcome, and contract alignment. Once TC-in/relet starts, also measured on desk P&L.
Degree or diploma in shipping, maritime studies, logistics, business or a related field.
7+ years of dry bulk chartering or shipbroking experience, with direct fixing experience in Supramax/Ultramax.
Experience on the cargo side (commodity house, trader or cargo broker), preferably with grain or agri cargoes.
Working knowledge of GENCON, NYPE and Synacomex charter party forms, laytime and demurrage.
Active network of Supramax/Ultramax owners, operators and brokers.
Proven ability to close commercially sound fixtures and manage multiple shipments under pressure.
Experience with time charter-in, relet or an operator desk.
Knowledge of FFA and bunker hedging.
Experience on agri trade lanes from Australia, the Black Sea, Canada and ECSA into Asia, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.
Membership of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (MICS).
Familiarity with Veson IMOS or a similar voyage management system.
