Accountant - Marine Industry
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Accountant with exposure to the Marine, Shipping or Ship Management industry to manage day-to-day accounting activities and support the company's financial operations. The role will work closely with the Finance team, vessel operations and external stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting, timely payments and proper financial controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and bank reconciliations.
- Handle accounting transactions for vessel-owning, ship management or marine-related entities.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports and supporting schedules.
- Manage vessel-related invoices, including crew costs, bunkers, repairs, maintenance, port expenses, agency fees and other operating expenses.
- Process supplier invoices, payments and expense claims while ensuring proper approvals and documentation.
- Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding payments and maintain accurate customer accounts.
- Perform monthly bank, supplier, customer and intercompany reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including accruals, prepayments and journal entries.
- Prepare cash flow reports and monitor the company's daily liquidity requirements.
- Work closely with vessel operators, Technical Superintendents, Purchasing and Operations teams to verify and resolve vessel-related financial transactions.
- Liaise with auditors, tax agents, banks, suppliers and other external parties when required.
- Ensure accounting records comply with company policies, Singapore Financial Reporting Standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support annual audits, tax submissions and other statutory reporting requirements.
- Identify discrepancies and improve accounting processes, controls and reporting procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation in the company's accounting/ERP system.
Requirements
- Diploma/Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of accounting experience, preferably within the Marine, Shipping, Ship Management, Offshore or Maritime services industry.
- Experience handling vessel accounting or ship management accounts is highly advantageous.
- Good understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, reconciliations and month‑event closing.
- Familiarity with vessel operating expenses, port disbursements, bunker costs, crew expenses and marine procurement transactions would be an advantage.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical and organisational skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with both shore-based and vessel personnel.
- Able to work independently, manage multiple entities or vessels and meet tight reporting deadlines.
