Job summary

DIRECT SEARCH ASIA PTE. LTD. is seeking an Accountant to support vessel accounting and financial reporting in a global ship management environment.

The role involves preparing vessel accounts, coordinating with vessel owners and regional finance teams, and ensuring timely financial reporting for assigned vessels. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years in vessel accounting or ship management, strong Excel skills, and a capable understanding of GL, reconciliations, AP/AR.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance, Business.
• Minimum 2 years of accounting experience, preferably with vessel accounting or ship management exposure.
• Experience preparing vessel reports independently is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of General Ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day vessel accounting and prepare vessel reports for assigned vessels.
• Handle portage bill accounting and ensure accurate recording of vessel-related transactions.
• Prepare complete sets of vessel accounts with supporting schedules and reconciliations.
• Review vessel reports for accuracy and respond to queries from vessel owners and internal stakeholders.

We are seeking an Accountant to support vessel accounting and financial reporting within a global ship management environment. The role is responsible for preparing vessel accounts, managing fund requests and reconciliations, coordinating with vessel owners and regional finance teams, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for assigned vessels.

This position is ideal for accounting professionals with experience in vessel accounting, ship management, or maritime finance who are looking to develop their expertise in a fast-paced international shipping environment.

Key Responsibilities

Vessel Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Manage day-to-day vessel accounting and prepare vessel reports for assigned vessels.
• Handle portage bill accounting and ensure accurate recording of vessel-related transactions.
• Prepare complete sets of vessel accounts with supporting schedules and reconciliations.
• Review vessel reports for accuracy and respond to queries from vessel owners and internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate with regional finance teams and operational departments to ensure timely submission of financial reports.

Accounts & Fund Management

• Raise fund requests to vessel owners and monitor receipt of operating funds.
• Perform inter-company reconciliations and assist in monitoring outstanding balances.
• Support accounts receivable and accounts payable activities related to vessel operations.

Audit & Compliance

• Prepare financial schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
• Assist with SOX compliance activities and finance control requirements.
• Ensure accounting records comply with company policies and statutory requirements.

Reporting & Finance Support

• Provide management information and financial data relating to vessel reports.
• Support the Finance team with reconciliations, reporting, and ad-hoc accounting assignments.
• Assist with continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.

Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of accounting experience, preferably with exposure to vessel accounting or ship management.
• Experience preparing vessel reports independently is highly preferred.
• Good understanding of General Ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
• Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills with the ability to liaise with regional finance teams and vessel owners.
• Detail-oriented, able to work independently, and capable of managing multiple reporting deadlines.

Preferred Experience

Candidates from ship management companies, shipowners, maritime operators, or marine services organisations with vessel accounting experience will have an advantage.
