Job summary

Private Advertiser is seeking a kitchen assistant for NFS practical lessons in Singapore. Responsibilities include portioning ingredients, maintaining food safety standards, and stock upkeep. Contract from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2029; Monday to Friday schedule with holidays observed. Training in SFA Level 1 is expected and prior kitchen experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of handling food and portioning for practical lessons.

Responsibilities

• Cut and prepare portions for NFS practical lessons as per teacher guidance.
• Store ingredients according to food safety standards.
• Maintain refrigerators and dispose of rubbish properly.
• Keep lab areas tidy and equipment in place.
• Ensure gas supply is turned off at day end and all tasks completed.

Job description

Contract Period: From 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2029

Personnel to be deployed at the following hours:

• Mondays to Fridays: 7:00am to 3:30pm
• Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays or off-in-lieu of the public holidays when the school is closed.
• Service is not required for the entire months of June, November and December each year, in accordance with the school holiday period.

Requirements:

1. PSLE certificate
2. Passed Singapore Food Agency (SFA) Food Safety Course Level 1
3. At least 1 year of relevant working experience in a kitchen environment from 1 January 2022 to the closing date of this ITQ
4. Has knowledge on handling food and ability to portion ingredients for practical lessons
5. Good communication skills
6. Able to work independently and take initiative

Job Scopes：

• Cutting and preparing specific portions of ingredients and distributing them according to the recipe given by teachers before the start of all NFS practical lessons.
• Store food ingredients accordingly to food safety standards.
• Maintenance of refrigerator which includes clearing of food.
• Clearing of unwanted packaging, boxes or items to be disposed of.
• Maintenance of tidiness of Food Labs.
• After lessons, check all cookers are off and rubbish is disposed of.
• Check that main gas supply is turned off at the end of the day.
• Clear the centre store table.
• Washing of rags using the washer/dryer machine.
• Perform inventory checks in NFS Food Lab and Work Room.
• Ensure Food Labs are arranged in order after practical lessons.
• Assist in food preparation for projects under the NFS Department, e.g. Talent Development, Teachers’ Day, competitions, etc.
• Assist in food ordering for all NFS practical lessons and NFS practical examinations.
• Receive the food orders delivered. Store the ingredients appropriately in the labs.
• Contacting the grocer whenever the food orders delivered has missing items or the ingredients are not fresh. To request for an exchange or replacement of ingredients, if needed.
• Fill up the soaps, check that the cutlery and equipments are in place.
• Note leftovers to carry forward and advise teachers should there be insufficient ingredients for preparation of lessons.
• Perform stock-taking duties of consumables such as detergents, soaps and sponges.
• Any other duties assigned by FCE teachers.
