Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an R&D Engineer to develop advanced control strategies for HVDC systems, including Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) and Line Commutated Converter (LCC) technologies, in a global, collaborative environment focused on innovation.

You will design and optimize control algorithms for MMC- and LCC-based HVDC systems, perform small‑signal stability analyses and transient simulations, and contribute to roadmaps and performance improvements.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Power Systems, Electrical Machines and Drives, or Power Electronics Control.
• Preferred HVDC or FACTS experience.
• Strong knowledge of MMC topologies and HVDC control systems.
• Proven expertise in small-signal stability analysis and transient simulations.
• Excellent collaboration and organizational skills; fluent English.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize control algorithms for MMC- and LCC-based HVDC systems.
• Perform steady-state, small-signal, and transient analyses to ensure robust performance.
• Contribute to system-level dynamic performance evaluations and improvements.
• Support strategic technology roadmaps and future HVDC control directions.
• Collaborate in an agile team and take ownership of technology and personal development.
