Job summary

Hitachi Energy Sweden, Ludvika, is seeking an R&D Senior Engineer to develop advanced control strategies for HVDC MMC and LCC systems, mentor engineers, and drive technology roadmaps in a global, collaborative environment.

You will design control algorithms, perform small-signal stability analysis and transient studies, and mentor juniors while contributing to strategic technology directions and ensuring robust performance.

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc in Power Systems, Electrical Machines and Drives, or Power Electronics Control.
• Several years of experience in HVDC or FACTS technologies.
• Strong knowledge of MMC topologies and HVDC control systems.
• Experience in small-signal stability analysis and transient simulations.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP-RV, Modelica, RTDS, Python, C/C++.
• Open-minded, solution-oriented, and collaborative with strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency in English is required.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize control algorithms for MMC- and LCC-based HVDC systems.
• Lead system-level dynamic performance evaluations and drive improvements in control strategies.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to tech roadmaps and strategic direction.
• Collaborate in an agile, international environment and address evolving customer requirements.
• Ensure safety, integrity and responsible execution in all tasks.
