Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an R&D Engineer to develop advanced control strategies for HVDC systems, including MMC and LCC technologies. You will design and optimize control algorithms, perform stability studies, and contribute to system-level evaluations to ensure robust performance.

Ideal candidates have strong knowledge of HVDC controls, experience with MATLAB/PSCAD, and collaboration skills to work in a global, innovative team. English proficiency is required.

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc in Power Systems, Electrical Machines and Drives, or Power Electronics Control.
• Preferred HVDC or FACTS experience.
• Strong knowledge of MMC topologies and HVDC control systems.
• Proven expertise in small-signal stability analysis and transient simulations.
• Proficient with MATLAB, PSCAD/EMTDC, EMTP-RV, Modelica, Dymola, RTDS, Python, C/C++.
• Open-minded, solution-oriented and collaborative with strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize control algorithms for MMC- and LCC-based HVDC systems.
• Perform small-signal stability analysis, harmonic studies and transient simulations.
• Contribute to system-level dynamic performance evaluations and continuous improvements in control strategies.
• Support strategic technology roadmaps and future HVDC control system directions.
• Collaborate in a multidisciplinary, agile team environment and take ownership of technology and personal development.
• Uphold safety, integrity and responsibility in all activities.
