Job summary

International Maritime Industries is seeking a Work Preparator, Mechanical for the RAK-KSA site. The role focuses on work preparation related to mechanical, machining and R&P activities, including scope definition, material requisitions, and progress documentation.

Responsibilities include preparing drawings, client sign-offs, BOMs, and ensuring on-time proposal/ drawings submission. Requires extensive shipyard/mechanical experience and relevant qualifications.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical engineering is required.
• Proven experience in mechanical work preparation in ship repair/rig repair environments.
• Professional qualifications related to shipyard/marine work are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to IMI Health, Safety, Environment and Quality policies.
• Prepare detailed work scopes, BOMs and man-hour estimates.
• Create drawings/sketches and obtain client signatures for the scope.
• Liaise with Ops and project controls, and assist in bid support as required.
• Prepare material lists and ensure material availability.
• Develop work descriptions and progress updates for production planning.
• Close out repairs with final work description and documentation.

Job Purpose / Objective

Summary of the main purpose of the job as the basic function and scope of the job in terms of organization, geographic areas supported, financial or other volume/size metrics, strategic impact and nature of supervision received or exercised related to the job in a descriptive manner. The role holder is responsible for work preparation activities related to mechanical, machining and R&P work. which includes identifying the scope of work, quantifying it, including the repair of mechanical components such as valves, pumps, machinery deck equipment, mooring equipment, M/E and A/E, R&P, manhours breakdowns, total duration of repair, receiving client signatures on proposed drawings, preparing the materials list, making the required requisitions, following up with the work in progress and closure of the work and related documentation.

Key Accountabilities

• Adhere to, reinforce, and promote IMI Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Policies.
• Make detailed evaluations of repair specifications, itemizing man-hour requirements, total duration of repair, preparing the BOM, and where necessary requisitioning of materials (PRs), Inter‑trade involvements, direct purchases.
• Issue internal requests and follow up the progress of such assistance.
• Responsible for submission in time of proposals/drawings for approval prior to commencing the work.
• Prepare drawings/sketches as per the identified scope of work, receive client signatures for the same and distribute as required.
• Liaise with Ops project controls for information required/submittal.
• Assist in bid support as and when required.
• Prepare material lists necessary for execution of the jobs, assure availability of the materials either from Warehouse or by direct purchase.
• Prepare detailed job sheets for supervisors, records progress daily.
• Prepare final work description including all supplies and man-hours used for approval by Senior Superintendent.
• Update the vessels files for Mechanical, Machining and R&P repairs. Capture all actual as fitted mechanical stuff at the end of repair to be compared with initial SOW for commercial purposes.

• Prepare the work completion reports/certificates at the end of the repair.
• Responsible for closing on time without any delays all relevant GRNs and SRNs for proper cost capturing of the projects affecting the gross margins calculation.
• Prepare the detailed scope of work, work packages, specifications in case of work outsourcing to external parties.
• Liaise with the engineering team as needed.
• Optimize the material usage based on BOM and minimize the material waste.
• Ensure the most efficient work preparation always keeping in mind the cost cutting and time saving.
• Provide estimated man-hours details and progress of all jobs to Production Planning Units twice a week.
• Attend daily meetings on board with Owner's Representatives and Project Managers to follow up the progress of the work.
• Develop work descriptions.
• Perform other relevant tasks as directed by reporting management.

Qualifications & Experience

Education Degree or Diploma in relevant Mechanical engineering discipline.

• Professional Qualifications relative with the required extensive experience.
• Proven experience of performing mechanical work preparation within a Ship Repair and Rig Repair establishment at same/equivalent level.
• Shipyard Industry/Marine Related Professional Qualifications Or relevant time served.

Competencies

• Real and in-depth knowledge of production processes in a shipyard environment in ship and rig repairs.
• QC/QA, Documentation management.
• Assessing resource requirements.
• Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., MS suite, AutoCAD).
• Sound understanding of Engineering drawings and mechanical clearances and tolerances.
• Shops drawings preparation and issuance.
• Sound knowledge on tools/equipment, measuring instruments, and consumables and material grades.
• Overhauling working methods and processes including machining.
• In depth knowledge of ISO standards, classification, API rules and Regulations And Other Regulatory Requirements.
• Physically fit and able to work in extreme climatic conditions.
• Experience At least 3 years’ experience for degree holders and 11 years’ experience for diploma holders in the mechanical production in shipyard environment in particular ship/rig repairs.
