Summary

Supervises operations of a designated section of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (DPLM). Ensures that standards of quality and efficiency are maintained in accordance with policy and objectives.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Manages, plans, organizes, and monitors operations of the section. Supervises daily work activities of technical and administrative staff of assigned section.
  2. Effectively measures, manages, and reports section productivity and recommends resource allocation adjustments.
  3. Effectively incorporates budget process and manages budget allocated to section, minimizes total sectional costs, operates with in budget constraints. Performs periodic cost analyses to minimize costs per test.
  4. Responsible for updating and maintaining efficient operation of the Laboratory Information System (LIS) as it pertains to the section.
  5. Maintains an effective supply order/inventory system. Ensures that optimum levels of supplies are continuously available to provide uninterrupted services.
  6. Manages lab aspects of all equipment contracts (service, GPPRR, etc.) in assigned section; ensures that vendor and assigned section are in compliance with all contractual terms.
  7. Assists section head in developing and recommending new methodologies, evaluating and recommending new equipment, and participating in research projects. Maintains section/department policy and procedures in accordance with established standards.
  8. Develops and maintains state of the art quality control and quality improvement programs within the section in accordance with Laboratory/College of AmericanPathologists/American Association of Blood Bank standards. Participates in and contributes to quality improvement activities. Provides quality improvement reports based on quality improvement indicators.
  9. Follows up all incident reports involving the section, providing appropriate action and written response in accordance with laboratory/Hospital policy. Maintains equipment problem log files and equipment operation, maintenance, and repair records.
  10. Evaluates staff performance. Counsels staff on issues of performance improvement. Recommends disciplinary actions. Evaluates employment candidates and makes recommendations regarding hire.
  11. Ensures that Laboratory safety procedures are implemented and practiced.
  12. Ensures that residents, assigned staff, and other relevant Hospital personnel receive appropriate orientation, training and access to continuing education.
  13. Performs technical duties as needed including weekends, night-shifts, and on call coverage.
  14. Participates in self and others’ education, training, and development, as applicable.
  15. Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.
Education

Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology is required.

Experience Required

Grade 10:

Four (4) years of related experience with Master’s or six (6) years with Bachelor’s Degree; including two (2) years in a supervisory/senior position is required.

Grade 11:

Four (4) years as Supervisor, Medical Laboratory at KFSH&RC. Average of annual performance appraisal at least (3.5) for the last four (4)years. One hundred (100) hours of cumulative continued medical education [CME].

Other Requirements (Certificates)
  • Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required.
  • Registration in MT(ASCP), CLS(NCA) or equivalent specialist for American, Advanced Registered Technologist (ART) or Registered Technologist (RT) for Canadian, or FIMLS or AIMLS for British or NZIMLT for New Zealander or MSMLT for Malaysian or equivalent in country of origin.
