Role Overview
Senior Signaling Engineer - Rail Systems – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full‑time position requires a Saudi National with at least 12 years of experience in large‑scale rail infrastructure projects. The role focuses on CBTC signaling delivery, including design review, installation, testing, commissioning, operations, and contractor technical management.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and management oversight for the Design‑Build Contractor’s CBTC signaling team.
- Ensure signaling system delivery aligns with project requirements, technical specifications, schedule targets, performance objectives, and safety expectations.
- Lead and support the rail signaling team while encouraging safety, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
- Coordinate with the client, regulatory authorities, contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders on signaling‑related matters.
- Participate in design review meetings and assess compliance with signaling system specifications, design requirements, and project objectives.
- Review technical aspects of signaling systems, including Automatic Train Protection, Automatic Train Operation, Automatic Train Supervision, and Automatic Train Regulation.
- Manage signaling interfaces with other rail disciplines, railway subsystems, civil works, platform screen doors, operations, and systems integration teams.
- Monitor signaling design progress, equipment installation, implementation activities, testing, commissioning, and integration milestones.
- Support resolution of technical, operational, interface, and logistical issues related to signaling systems.
- Review contractor design submissions and provide clear recommendations to resolve design gaps, integration risks, and technical challenges.
- Prepare technical reports, evaluations, analyses, review comments, recommendations, and signaling progress updates.
- Monitor and report signaling progress against project schedules, budgets, specifications, contractual requirements, and performance criteria.
- Support the Programme Director with change management, variations, risks, opportunities, claims, counterclaims, and specification deviation reviews.
- Promote value engineering while protecting signaling safety, reliability, maintainability, operational performance, and system integrity.
- Coordinate signaling work with systems engineering, interface management, testing teams, operations teams, and construction delivery teams.
- Review signaling‑related contractual correspondence and support contractor management activities where technical input is required.
- Track critical signaling issues and escalates matters requiring senior management, client, or regulatory attention.
- Contribute to readiness planning for installation, wayside works, trackside systems, testing, commissioning, and future operations.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Saudi National candidate required.
- Minimum 12 years of experience on large‑scale infrastructure, metro, railway, transportation, or civil projects with significant systems interface and integration responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience in rail signaling design, installation, testing, commissioning, operations, and maintenance for commuter rail or metro systems.
- Strong knowledge of Communication‑Based Train Control, Automatic Train Control, and trackside signaling systems.
- Technical understanding of Automatic Train Protection, Automatic Train Operation, Automatic Train Supervision, Automatic Train Regulation, and signaling interfaces.
- Experience managing signaling interfaces with platform screen doors, rail subsystems, operations teams, civil works, and multidisciplinary project packages.
- Strong knowledge of metro signaling standards, railway procedures, technical assurance, systems integration, and recognized engineering software packages.
- Experience in design consultancy environments, contractor management, contractual administration, technical correspondence, and design review processes.
- Proven leadership ability with strong stakeholder management, commercial awareness, technical coordination, and decision‑making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work effectively with multinational and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Rail industry‑recognized qualifications such as IRSE Design Manager, Principles Designer, or Verifier certification are highly preferred.
- Knowledge of ERTMS and ETCS Level 2 systems, including wayside and trackside commissioning activities, is advantageous.
- Previous GCC project experience is preferred.
- Experience delivering signaling solutions for metro, railway, transit, or major transportation projects is highly valuable.
